The UC San Francisco/UC Berkeley Small Business Day Near the Bay, held March 14, was an opportunity for small businesses on both sides of the Bay to hear from governmental agencies, as well as their small business colleagues, on how to develop and grow their businesses. Lively engagement ensued and a wealth of small business tools and resources were provided.

The UC Berkeley/UC San Francisco Supplier Diversity Program Office partnered with:

  • UC Berkeley campus Government and Community Relations Office
  • UCSF Community Engagement Office – Lydia Bell
  • Federal Small Business Administration (SBA) – Benny Gutierrez and Mark McComas
  • Northern Contra Costa Small Business Development Centers – Oscar Dominguez
  • Local community service organizations including: the City of Richmond, Richmond Chamber of Commerce, RichmondBUILD, Richmond Mainstreet and others

The event also included:

  • "Meet the Borrowers" panel moderated by Oscar Dominguez with panelists Warren Allen, Acumen Building Enterprise; Patrick Madden, President Kerex Engineering; and Levent Tekmen, Vice President/General Manager, Surplus Service.
  • "Working the System" interview with Jasmine Ali, CEO, and Hanh Kent, Director for Client Services for Bay Systems Inc
  • UC Berkeley/UCSF Small Business Office Supply partner, Give Something Back, which provided a table with supplies and consulted with small businesses attending the event. Gary Simms, Patty De Freitas, and Mark Patenaude were there to support us.

The Supplier Diversity Program Office thanks all of those individuals who presented and the small businesses that participated.
