Small Business Fireside Chat Recap

Supply Chain Management (SCM) and the UCSF Anchors Away team hosted a Small Business Virtual Fireside Chat in late May. The session was led by Strategic Sourcing Professional Marliz Copado and SCM Strategic Procurement Executive Director Andrew Clark. It also featured panelists from five small, local and/or diverse (SLD) suppliers registered in BearBuy that currently work with the UCSF community.

The hosts and panelists discussed the importance of SLD business certifications and how this helped  the companies make connections and obtain new business partnerships. The panelists also offered their perspectives on the pandemic and the future. Watch the event recording here

As an anchor institution, UCSF is committed to leveraging its economic power along with its human and intellectual resources to improve the long-term health and social welfare of its surrounding communities. To support this mission, the UCSF Anchor Institution Mission helps SLD businesses obtain appropriate certifications to ease the process of working with the University. By hosting these types of events, we hope to encourage businesses in the area to start the certification process, and remind the UCSF community of the importance of using certified SLD businesses when making purchasing decisions.

UCSF’s goal is to achieve 25 percent addressable spend with SLD suppliers by fiscal year 2025/2026. Addressable spend refers to intentional purchases made under our control versus expenditures we have no control over such as taxes and utilities. UCSF is currently at 16.5 percent of addressable spend with SLD suppliers.
