The Supplier Diversity and Inclusion Program (SDIP) is a key component of the Anchor Institution Mission, UCSF’s commitment to leveraging our economic strength, PRIDE (professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence) values, and our commitment to diverse resources.

Since 2021, as part of the Chancellors True North Accountability Metric, Marliz Copado, Supply Chain Management’s (SCM) Strategic Sourcing Professional for Supplier Diversity, has met with each of the Chancellor’s Cabinet members to identify opportunities to diversify their spend. In 2022, the Finance Executive Team joined in to lead this work across Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) which included 2,000 team members to promote supplier diversity at all levels of the enterprise.

Over the last several years, the SDIP, Anchors Away team, SCM and Value Improvement project team, have expanded their community outreach to better support the San Francisco Bay Area's small and diverse business needs. Here’s a look at what the team accomplished in 2023.

  • Two outreach events offered attendees tips on how to simplify becoming a UCSF supplier and created opportunities for potential new business partnerships and interaction with UCSF procurement staff.
  • The Virtual Small Business Fireside Chat featured panelists from five certified small and diverse businesses with whom UCSF piloted orders, giving attendees a first-hand perspective on what it takes to work with the University procurement system.
  • Certification training offered attendees education in how to obtain a small and/or diverse business certification.
  • UCSF team members participated in the San Francisco Small Business Expo and the Real Estate Design & Construction Day Event, along with our partners at the University of California Office of the President, where we prioritized outreach to small and diverse businesses. This event allowed small business owners to learn ways to increase revenue and grow their businesses.
  • On campus, we are on track to meet our goal of 25 percent addressable spend on diverse goods and services by fiscal year (FY) 25/26. FY22/23 closed with more than $118 million dollars spent with certified small and/or diverse businesses and just over 19 percent diverse spend.
  • Encouraged by the Office of Sustainability, two new suppliers met economic and socially responsible spend requirements
  • 13 BearBuy shoppers participated in a focus group to improve supplier diversity resources

To ensure UCSF is inclusive of small and diverse suppliers within the Bay Area, we will continue to stay connected with our community advocacy partners and build new partnerships in 2024. We look forward to helping to secure a healthy future for all communities. For questions or to support the SDIP program, please contact Marliz Copado.
