Import Documents Checklist

  • Commercial Invoice (invoice from the foreign seller, or can be prepared by importer for return shipments or if unavailable from the foreign shipper)
  1. Description of what is being imported, if description on commercial invoice is unclear
  • Campus specific documentation requirements
  1. UCSF: Purchase Order
  • If shipment is already in transit, copy of Airwaybill or Bill of Lading
  1. Original Bill of Lading may be required for ocean shipments
  • Any required import permits
  1. Plants
  2. Soil
  3. USDA
  4. TSCA Certificate for chemicals
  • Information needed
  1. Contact information for foreign shipper
  2. Number of pieces
  3. Piece Dimensions (L x W x H)
  4. For pallets – number of cartons on pallet
  5. Date expected to be ready
  6. Required delivery date
  7. Any dangerous goods?
  • Lithium Batteries (large or small, rechargeable or not)
  • Acid batteries – including non-spillable batteries
  • Flammables
  • Corrosives
  • Compressed Gases (including compressed air)

  1. Is this U.S. goods returning?
  2. Will these items be re-exported?
