SCM Logistics Expands Outbound Mail Services to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland
Supply Chain Management Logistics has expanded its services to support UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland by integrating their outbound mail processing into UCSF’s centralized mail system, delivering cost savings.
In June 2025, Supply Chain Management (SCM) Logistics officially began providing outbound mail services to Oakland. This expansion was initiated in collaboration with Eamon Loughnane, Director of Supply Chain Management in Oakland, as part of ongoing integration efforts with UCSF.
The Children's Hospital in Oakland had been exploring options for streamlining mail processing and turned to SCM Logistics to evaluate a potential solution. With an existing mail route extending to Emeryville to support UCSF Health Medical Group Business Services, Logistics identified an opportunity to seamlessly incorporate Oakland into the outbound mail system.
Following a successful pilot, UCSF Logistics processed nearly 6,000 outbound mail pieces from Oakland in June—now the second-largest outbound mail volume across all UCSF departments. This addition resulted in an 18 percent increase in total outbound mail handled by UCSF Logistics.
By leveraging UCSF’s centralized mail infrastructure, Oakland avoided approximately $34K in capital costs for mail metering equipment and saved an estimated 8 hours of staff time per week. This partnership reflects SCM’s commitment to operational efficiency and collaborative support across the UCSF enterprise.
