Strike Impact Advisory

Supply Chain Management (SCM) prepares for potential service disruptions.

The University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) labor union has notified the University of a strike beginning at midnight on Wednesday, November 20, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, November 21. Due to these strike activities, we anticipate potential disruptions within Supply Chain services. One of the primary concerns is that many of our key carriers, including FedEx and UPS, may not cross picket lines to deliver essential products. Additionally, our union-represented SCM Logistics team—which receives and distributes supplies from UCSF-preferred suppliers—may have degraded capacity during this time.

Given the potential for supply shortages, it is important that all departments take action to mitigate the impact on their operations. We strongly urge you to:

  • Review your current inventory levels and maintain sufficient stock to last the strike period: Assess your stock of essential supplies and determine if you have adequate quantities to sustain your operations.
  • Place orders ahead of time: To avoid any interruptions, please place orders for any necessary supplies as soon as possible.

We understand this situation may pose challenges, and we are committed to supporting you through this period. Should you require any assistance or have concerns about specific supplies, please do not hesitate to reach out to the SCM Response team or direct your suppliers with questions to the external SCM intake form.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your cooperation.
