Anchor Institution Initiative Update – June 2021

SCM Committed to Supplier Diversity

During Pride Month, Supply Chain Management (SCM) wants to remind you of our commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable UCSF, where all people have equal access to opportunities. SCM and the UCSF Anchor Institution Initiative are advancing these efforts by developing a framework for achieving supplier diversity. The Initiative fosters connections between the University and diverse firms in our community as well as advocacy and peer institutions working toward this same goal.

To achieve supplier diversity, it requires commitment to anchor our work in equity with a focus on an inclusive business practice from every staff member who secures products and services and makes purchasing decisions for the University. We encourage you to procure from small, local and diverse businesses whenever possible.

Working with Small and Diverse Businesses

Small, local and diverse businesses can offer creative solutions, but some may have never worked for a University before. It is important to remain flexible in the procurement and onboarding process to engage diverse partners appropriately.

A diverse supplier is identified as an individual or group that is part of a traditionally underrepresented or underserved group. A diverse supplier should maintain their business with at least 51 percent owned, operated and managed business type classifications most recognized as:

  • Local (LBE)
  • Small (SBE & SDB)
  • Minority (MBE)
  • Women (WBE & WOSB)
  • Veteran (VOSB)
  • Proprietors with disabilities (DVBE & SDVOSB)
  • Disadvantaged (DBE)
  • Historically underutilized business zone (HUBZone)
  • Historically black college or minority institution (HBCU/ MI)
  • Alaska native corporation (ANC1 & ANC2)
  • Self-identify as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+
