Chemical Management Program Launching in July

In July, UCSF will introduce ChemCentral, a chemical management program that delivers commonly used chemicals to researchers and assists in managing inventory at safe levels. The program is launching in the new Weill Neurosciences Building at Mission Bay, with plans to expand to other locations across the University. A Parnassus location is expected to open in September. ChemCentral will play a critical part in UCSF’s goal of promoting safe and sustainable chemical management.

The program will initially provide onsite access to frequently used chemicals, allowing for easier and faster purchase and more accurate inventory management while reducing the administrative burden for researchers. Chemicals will be received in a central location and stockroom staff will deliver chemicals within four hours of purchase during regular working hours to laboratory drop zones, or researchers can pick up chemicals directly from the stockroom any time, 24/7. Services will vary at each location.

Purchases from the stockroom will be made through Stock Solution, a new software suite that actively communicates with other UCSF software including Lab Hazard Assessment (LHAT) and UC Chemicals.
