In order to better track and manage our chemical and other hazardous materials purchases, three new commodity codes have been created and the existing Chemicals Commodity Code (00025 Chemicals-52201) has been renamed and now designated for hazardous chemicals only. The new commodity codes are tied to the COA Account code 52201 Lab supplies - chemicals, which will be used in the general ledger when selected on your BearBuy orders.

Please select the most accurate commodity code for your purchase when placing a non-catalog form order. For hosted or punch-out catalog orders, the system will default the commodity code. We recommend for you to review the commodity code value at the Requisition line level to ensure your purchase is classified correctly.
The commodity codes appear in alphabetical order as an option in the Commodity Code pull down list found on various BearBuy forms and at the Requisition line level. If you have a question about use of the new commodity codes, please contact your department’s financial team.
