New Small Business Partner: Stygian

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is pleased to announce our new small business partner, Stygian. Stygian is a California certified, small and minority business enterprise, headquartered in Oakland. They specialize in facilities maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) and construction supplies.

“Stygian initially signed up for our diverse supplier list in 2022. They stayed engaged and attended our small business webinar in August," said Marliz Copado, Strategic Sourcing Professional. "In the breakout, we were able to learn more about their capabilities.”

Stygian has partnered with Grainger — one of UCSF’s existing suppliers for facilities supplies — in a program that gives UCSF access to Grainger pricing through the Stygian punchout. As a result, UCSF can support our local small and minority owned business, while receiving existing pricing and staying true to our long-term partners.

Stygian will be added to BearBuy as a punchout catalog in the near future. We encourage you to transition your Grainger spend to the Stygian once the punchout is available. Over the next few months, SCM and Facilities will begin exploring some of the additional technological features Stygian brings to campus to create additional purchasing efficiencies and to save time for departments needing facility services.

This program fulfills several of UCSF’s goals including:

  • With full adoption, SCM estimates this program will increase diverse spend on campus goods and services ($550 million) by $3 million per year or approximately half of one percent.
  • This program supports Pillar 6 of UCSF’s anti-racism initiative which calls for greater commitment to the Bay Area as demonstrated by increasing spend with black-owned businesses.
  • The Chancellor’s Cabinet True North community engagement pillar to spend more with local, small, and diverse businesses.
  • The UCSF Finance and Administrative Services Executive Team commitment to increase small and diverse spend by the end of fiscal year 2023.
